The Health Science major provides an multidisciplinary approach leading to the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. The core curriculum stresses interdisciplinary educational values consisting of teamwork, conflict resolution and effective use of informatics. All program core courses involve group work with case-based, problem-based pedagogy and simulation. The foundational outcome of the Health Sciences Program is preparation for pursuit of several career alternatives and graduate study related to healthcare. Each student works closely with an advisor to develop an optimal curriculum map to prepare themselves for the chosen career.
The Health Science Clinical Concentration curriculum consists of existing coursework in the collaborating academic departments including Chemistry, Biology, Communication, Psychology and Health Sciences. This includes five courses in the Health Sciences: Introduction to the Health Care Practice , Human Assessment , Medical Ethics , Public Health Intervention , and Research Methods in Evidence Based Practice .
The student will navigate the coursework to optimize their transcript and prepare for the competitiveness of admitting to graduate school, which includes acquiring direct experience with clients in a clinical experience. The clinical rotations, such as the Public Health Intervention course, are vital components of this major.
Students must complete all Health Science core courses with a grade of B or higher. All other grade requirements are per University policy.
